One of Pixar’s many traditions is to feature the Pizza Planet truck in every film the animation studio makes, and now Inside Out 2 has continued this tradition in a particularly creative way. The Pizza Planet Truck made its debut in 1995 Toy history when Woody and Buzz Lightyear drove the vehicle to Pizza Planet, where Andy wanted to go. While the iconic yellow truck played an important role in Toy history‘s plot has since become more of a subtle Easter egg.

The Pizza Planet truck appeared in each of Pixar’s 28 feature films, in the 2004 film The Incredibles is the only exception. Due to the unique backdrops of the various Pixar films, the truck does not always appear as an actual vehicle, with Brave was the first to break this trend by including the Easter egg as a wood carving, as the story is set in 10th century Scotland. Although it is mostly set in Riley’s head, Inside Out 2 has nevertheless found a clever way to incorporate the Pizza Planet truck into its story.

The Pizza Planet Truck appears before fear and the other new emotions are introduced

The Pizza Planet Truck in Inside Out 2 can be seen next to Joy’s bed early in the film. It is not a real truck, but an origami truck that is seen on a table next to Joy’s bed where she is happily sleeping. This scene takes place right before Joy, Sadness, Fear, Disgust, and Anger are awakened by an unknown noise, resulting in the destruction of the headquarters and the introduction of Fear, Envy, Embarrassment, and Boredom.

Since the Pizza Planet Truck appeared several times in the first Everything is upside down Via Riley’s memory balls, Pizza Planet and its signature yellow vehicles appear to exist in Riley’s world. This means that the origami truck Joy has next to her bed is likely based on actual memories of Riley’s, rather than something Joy created purely from her imagination. The existence of Pizza Planet in Riley’s world could have interesting implications for Pixar’s shared universe theory, which states that all Pixar films take place in the same universe and continuity despite the vastly different settings and characters in each story.

Between Braves Truck carving made of wood And Inside Out 2‘s origami truck, some of the other particularly creative inclusions are a tattoo on the leg of a fairground employee in Toy Story 4an artifact in Soul‘s Hall of Everything and a boat passing by Wade’s building in the water district in ElementaryOf course, the truck played a more important role in Toy Story 2 when Buzz and the other toys use it to chase Al on his way to the airport. He most often appeared as a real truck and did not play a major role in the story.

The truck is parked in front of a house party in Monsters Universityparked at the Star Command base in light yearand Lotso, Chuckles and Big Baby ride briefly on the back of one of the trucks with Toy Story 3It will be exciting to see how Elio, Toy Story 5and the recently announced funnel And The Incredibles III find a way to incorporate the Pizza Planet truck into each of their different stories. It will be difficult to capture the creative subtlety of Inside Out 2‘s use of the long-lasting Easter Egg.

Inside Out 2 is the sequel to the original 2015 film, which starred a young girl named Riley with a head full of emotions – literally. With Amy Pohler as Joy, Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger, the all-star cast brought to life the emotions teens face as they grow up, change, and adapt to new situations. This sequel, currently in development, brings back Amy Pohler as Joy, with Riley now a teenager.
