Where can you draft RB Gus Edwards from the Los Angeles Chargers?

Los Angeles Chargers running back Gus Edwards had the best season of his career in 2023 with the Baltimore Ravens and is ready for another solid season this season. He entered the league undrafted in 2018 and quickly made a name for himself by amassing over 700 rushing yards in his first 4 seasons before battling numerous injuries in 2022. Below we look at Gus Edwards’ Average draft position (ADP) in 2024 Fantasy Football and where you should draft him.

In 2024, Edwards is expected to take another big step as the primary option for a potentially dynamic Los Angeles offense. Edwards has the potential to be a top-15 running back. The versatile back is interesting in terms of fantasy value.

Among running backs, Edwards’ ADP ranks 31st, behind Washington teammates Austin Ekeler (86.38) and Brian Robinson Jr. (83.20). Tennessee’s Tyjae Spears (93.20) is 32nd, while Pittsburgh’s Jaylen Warren (94.22) is 33rd.

Where should you draft Edwards?

Edwards’ fantasy value is difficult to predict this season, as he is still paired with RB JK Dobbins and will split duties with his former Ravens teammate in LA. Edwards is the projected starter and set a personal best with 13 touchdowns last season, so he may continue to do a lot of the work on the goal line.

The Dobbins signing hurts Edwards’ value somewhat due to the time allocation. Edwards has also been on a downward trend in efficiency. Last season, he set a career-high 198 carries but averaged just 4.1 yards per attempt, the lowest mark of his career.

Edwards was the 14th best running back in fantasy last season, playing in a career-high 42% of offensive snaps. He’ll likely be around 40% again this season. One plus for Edwards is that he’s more dangerous as a pass receiver than Dobbins, making him a better PPR target.

Draft Edwards above his ADP, as his max is higher than a fair number of receivers in his ADP range. Don’t drop him outside of the 8th round, especially in PPR leagues, as he should be the team’s primary receiver.

Given the rarity of solid backs, Edwards will contribute to the Chargers’ offense and should be used well. He could be a steal late in the draft.
