After the critically acclaimed American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson, Ryan Murphy will investigate the life of another prominent athlete who was accused of murder: Aaron Hernandez. The FX limited series titled American Sports History: Aaron Hernandez, will depict the struggles the New England Patriots tight end has endured throughout his life as investigators try to uncover the exact reasons behind the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd.
Based on the podcast Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez and Football Inc.as well as Reporting by The Boston Globe, The series will explore Hernandez’s sexuality, his past as a family man, his drug addiction, his conviction, his suicide and his posthumous CTE diagnosis. Josh Andrés Rivera (West Side Story) starts as Hernandez, while Patrick Schwarzenegger (yes, Arnold’s son) plays quarterback Tim Tebow.
American Sports History: Aaron Hernandez is also the first of seven series created by Ryan Murphy that will premiere during September and October, alongside Monster: The Story of Lyle and Erik Menendez, Grotesquerie, Doctor Odyssey, American Horror Stories Season 4 and the last seasons of both 9-1-1 And 9-1-1: Lone Star. How to watch American Sports History: Aaron Hernandez
The first two episodes of the miniseries will air on FX at 10 p.m. ET on September 17; episodes 1 and 2 will stream on Hulu the next day. The following eight episodes will air weekly on Tuesdays on FX and Wednesdays on Hulu.
