Wheel of Fortune fans upset with Ryan Seacrest because player misses out on prize

A Wheel of Fortune contestant missed the chance to win the million-dollar prize, and fans are blaming new host Ryan Seacrest.

During Seacrest’s first week replacing longtime host Pat Sajak, fans claimed the new game show host got off to a rocky start.

On the second night of Seacrest’s Wheel of Fortune show, contestant Airica spun a $1 million die during her performance. The die could have been swapped for the $100,000 die in the bonus round, meaning that if she won the game, she could have potentially won the top prize.

Pat Sajak’s name was left out of Ryan Seacrest’s Wheel of Fortune debut after the former host was seen with Vanna White

After solving the first puzzle, Airica landed on a mysterious wedge worth $1,000 and had the choice to reveal it or leave it.

After the contestant selected the letter “T,” Seacrest proceeded to explain the rules.

“So, Airica, these two T-shirts are worth $2,000. You can keep them or risk them, depending on what’s on the other side.”

“It could be bankruptcy or it could be $10,000,” Seacrest added.

After the Wheel of Fortune contestant decided to “take a chance,” Airica revealed the bankrupt wedge.

“You have to take the mystery and the million-dollar wedge with you,” Seacrest explained.

“I’m sorry!” he added, when she replied, “It’s okay.”

After Airica gave up her chance to win a million dollars, her fans were outraged because Seacrest did not explain to her that she had to give up her chance to win the million dollar prize beforehand.

Wheel of Fortune viewers were quick to point out Seacrest’s mistake on social media, saying Sajak had explained the rules correctly.

“Pat would have explained that she would have lost the millions if she had taken the risk,” wrote one fan on X.

Another comment read: “Seacrest is fine but he yells a lot. He didn’t help the poor woman by reminding her that she bet a million on a mysterious wedge.”

“Pat always reminded the contestants that if they looked below $10,000 they could lose their $1 million advantage. Ryan needs to do that too…” wrote one viewer.

One Wheel of Fortune fan blamed the contestant for her move on the game show, saying, “Just saw a terrible move up there, the dumbest of all Wheel of Fortune games. This lady has the $1 million wing. She risks 1% of it to win the stupid 50/50 mystery wing worth $10,000… and is broke. STUPID.”

While most viewers seemed upset about what happened on the game show, one fan defended Seacrest, commenting, “Contestants are informed of all the rules before the taping begins, and since we all know how it goes, those scenes are edited out in post-production to make room for more gameplay.”

Wheel of Fortune contestant Airica was able to amass more than $17,000 after her bust mistake. However, a player named Promise finally made it to the bonus round puzzle.

Seacrest replaced longtime host Sajak for season 42 of “Wheel of Fortune.”
