What’s on TV this week – Slow Horses, The Perfect Pair

The big ones

Slow horses (Apple TV+, Wednesday, 00:01)

The best of Slough House are back. Slow horses Season 4 begins with a bombing in London, forcing Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and his ragtag band of British spies to battle forces both internal and external. Meanwhile, River Cartwright (Jack Lowden) must deal with his grandfather’s declining health, and a shaken MI5 welcomes agent Emma Flyte (Ruth Bradley), who becomes the liaison between Jackson and Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas). Plus, a brand new villain, played by Hugo Weaving, enters the scene. Check out The AV Club‘s review.


The perfect couple (Netflix, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)

Based on Elin Hildebrand’s novel, The perfect couple has a strong cast led by Nicole Kidman and Liev Schrieber, who play a wealthy couple whose son (Billy Howle) is about to get married at their Nantucket mansion. However, on the morning of the wedding, a body washes ashore. Now all the guests are suspects, including the bride (Eve Hewson), the groom and various family members played by Dakota Fanning, Jack Reynor, Ishaan Khattar and Sam Nivola. Hidden Gems

English teacher (FX, Monday, 10 p.m.)

Internet darling Brian Jordan Alvarez created, co-wrote and directed this FX comedy in which he plays Evan Marquez, an Austin high school teacher trying to balance his personal and professional life while maintaining a modicum of sanity. The cast also includes Stephanie Koenig, Enrico Colanti, Carmen Christopher and Sean Patton. Check out The AV Club‘s review.


Apollo 13: Survival (Netflix, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)

Peter Middleton directs this archived retelling of Apollo13in which three astronauts were stranded in space, sparked a four-day rescue mission that attracted worldwide attention and served as the inspiration for the film starring Tom Hanks.

Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Savior (Max, Monday, 3:01 am)

Michael Bay produces Born Evil: The Serial Killer and the Saviora five-part docuseries about Hadden Clark, who is currently serving a prison sentence for multiple murders. The episodes delve into his broken family history, the crimes he committed, and the investigations into unsolved cases that may be connected to him (all thanks to confessions he made to his cellmate).


Fight Night: The Million Dollar Robbery (Peacock, Thursday, 3:01 a.m.)

Fight Night: The Million Dollar Robbery goes back to Atlanta in 1970, more specifically to the night of Muhammad Ali’s comeback fight against Jerry Quarry. As fans gather for an after-party, a group arrives with guns to steal cash and jewelry. Chicken Man (Kevin Hart) is accused of the crime and to prove his innocence, he tries to win the favor of an old friend, Detective JD Hudson (Don Cheadle). The film also stars Taraji P. Henson, Terrence Howard, Samuel L. Jackson and Chloe Bailey. The AV ClubThe review will be published on Thursday.
