What’s going on with this system heading into golf?

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The National Hurricane Center is monitoring three areas of unsettled weather for tropical activity Tuesday.

First, there will be a weak disturbance in the Gulf of Mexico over the next few days. Currently there is a 40% chance of it developing.

“Especially if it gets into the Gulf, we need to pay attention,” said WPTV First Alert Weather meteorologist Jennifer Correa. “So the timing of when it gets into the Gulf may not be until Friday, or if not the weekend, early next week.”

The models do not agree well with this system. At least it will pump plenty of tropical moisture into South Florida through this weekend.

Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Kirk, west of the Cape Verde Islands near Africa, will become a hurricane in the next day or so. It will likely become a major hurricane before spreading out to sea in the North Atlantic.

Behind Kirk there is a tropical wave, Invest 91-L, which could soon become a tropical cyclone. It has a high chance of developing.

Models are forecasting a tropical depression or storm over the next few days. It will take a similar route to Kirk, turning into the colder waters of the Atlantic. No danger to landing.

If Invest 91-L gets a name, it would be Leslie.

“At this time of year, the western Caribbean and the Gulf are hotspots for development,” Correa said.

The Atlantic hurricane season officially ends on November 30th.
