What you should know about this year’s TV special “Clear The Shelters” – NBC Boston

The NBCUniversal Local television special “Clear The Shelters” will air nationwide on NBC stations, as well as on COZI TV and NBC-owned streaming channels beginning Friday, August 16.

The 30-minute show celebrates NBC and Telemundo’s 10th annual nationwide pet adoption and donation campaign, which began August 10 and runs through September 10. Since its inception in 2015, Clear The Shelters has resulted in the adoption of more than one million pets and raised more than $4.5 million.

Who is hosting this year’s Clear The Shelters special?

This year’s Clear The Shelters special will be hosted by actress, producer and singer-songwriter Amanda Seyfried.

Seyfried has appeared in more than 70 acting roles since 2004, including the films “Mank,” “Mamma Mia!” and “Les Misérables,” as well as the series “The Dropout” and “The Crowded Room.” She stars in and executive produces the upcoming Peacock series “Long Bright River,” based on the book by Liz Moore, in which she plays Mickey, a police officer who patrols a Philadelphia neighborhood hit hard by the opioid crisis.

What are some highlights of this year’s special?

This year’s show marks the 10th.th Clear The Shelters’ anniversary with a look back at some of the adoption stories the initiative has produced over the years. A post from The Dodo, the animal and pet brand and long-time media partner of Clear The Shelters, will feature one of their “Dodo Dream Dates” with actress Maggie Q and a shelter dog.

The program will also highlight Little Shelter’s Silver Seniors program, which places senior pets with loving families, and the Niagara SPCA’s pizza box and field trip initiative, which “thinks outside the box” to find new homes for its shelter animals. Plus, NBC 4 New York’s Lauren Scala details how fostering a shelter pet can be a life-changing experience.

As part of the month-long milestone campaign, NBC and Telemundo stations are partnering with more than 1,400 animal shelters and rescues in their communities nationwide to encourage pet adoption and raise critical funds for their operations. The 2023 campaign resulted in more than 158,000 adoptions – bringing the total number of adoptions overall to over one million – and raised over $575,000.
