RALEIGH – CJ Bailey is the new quarterback of the NC State football team, which lost its starter Grayson McCall to injury in the first half of Saturday’s game against Louisiana Tech at Carter-Finley Stadium.
Bailey, a freshman from South Florida, enrolled at NC State as a three-star recruit in early January. Louisville and Miami were among the other ACC programs that offered Bailey a scholarship.
Bailey took over for McCall late in the first half and threw an interception before halftime. Louisiana Tech went into the locker room with a 17-6 lead.
NC State showed some signs of life in the third quarter when Donovan Kaufman returned an interception for a touchdown. Bailey came into his own in the second half, completing his first seven passes to lead a drive that put the Wolfpack ahead 20-17 late in the third quarter.

The 6’6″ quarterback, who played his prep football at Chaminade Madonna Prep, had 3,125 yards and a 71.4% completion rate in his final season. Bailey had thrown 47 passing touchdowns and averaged 223.2 yards per game. He totaled 9,005 passing yards with 116 TDs in his career.
