Schwartz reported that Jenkins-Hernandez spent $36,858 on clothing, including maternity wear; $39,347 on household goods; $25,577 on online shopping; $11,792 on “self-care,” including gym memberships and visits to hair and nail salons. Jenkins-Hernandez, however, insisted that she did not spend any money improperly and that the trust fund money should be available if she needs it. “Since Aaron’s death, my sole focus has been raising my children and providing them with the most stable life possible,” Jenkins-Hernandez wrote in an email to the Boston Globe“I have kept this one goal in mind with all the money I have spent, and that will continue to be my goal in the future.”
Her lawyer Stephen Withers said the controversy was “much ado about nothing. Shayanna has been focused on her children… Any accusation or insinuation that she is spending money inappropriately or for other purposes is absolutely false.”
