Pop, pop, pop, pop is what popcorn is all about on Wednesday as the global Google Doodle showcases the ever-popular treat.

The interactive doodle will go live in the US at 12:00 p.m. ET on Wednesday and will showcase the classic treat in a fun game.

Popcorn is a popular treat in the United States. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Americans consume about 14 billion gallons of popcorn annually. That’s an average of about 43 gallons per person nationwide.

In addition to the fun popcorn graphics, users can also play a game all about popcorn. Popcorn kernels from all over the world can compete against each other and have only one goal: not to get popped.

The Doodle is available for a limited time only, until Thursday, September 26 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

How do I play the Popcorn Google Doodle?

For users who want to be the last kernel standing, accessing the game is easy: Click on the doodle to start the game. Once you’re in, you can choose to play solo or invite friends to play in what Google calls “Squad Mode.”

Solo mode allows players to select a core with a special ability and appearance. Each of them has different skills to dodge projectiles and avoid being hit by butter. Squad mode has the same functionality as solo mode but allows players to play together with friends.

Once the game starts, players have one mission: to survive. Using the arrow keys, the grains can move around the playing field to avoid being hit. Using the space bar, the grains can activate their special ability when there are projectiles nearby.

The last core remaining is the winner!

What is a Google Doodle?

Google Doodles are designs that appear on the Google homepage.

Google says the designs celebrate a “range of local and international themes,” from holidays and anniversaries to groundbreaking figures who have influenced culture.

Google Doodles come in many formats, including static illustrations, animations, slideshows, videos, and interactive games.

Who designs Google Doodles?

According to Google, the team behind Doodles consists of in-house artists, called “Doodlers,” as well as engineers, designers, program managers, marketers and cultural consultants.

“We also work with local guest artists and creators from around the world to bring Doodles to life,” the company says on its website.
