Along Florida’s southwest coast and farther north in places like Clearwater and Tampa, one of the bigger stories was the sand pushed ashore by this latest hurricane.

Photos from our own employees and on social media showed how extensively the sand was spread in many places. Many streets were covered and even four days after the effects of Helene were felt, clean-up efforts were underway to return to “normal”.

News-Press and Naples Daily News drone pilot Ricardo Rolon conducted a flight over Sanibel Island and Captiva today. The video, which is just over two minutes long, can be found at the top of this page.

Sanibel was one of the hardest hit places years ago (September 28, 2022) when Hurricane Ian hit the coast, becoming one of the deadliest and most devastating storms in Florida history. The video shows a lot of sand in places where it shouldn’t be.
