What do you expect from Aaron Rodgers against the 49ers?

During the entire off-season NewYorkJets.com Reporters Eric Allen, Ethan Greenberg, Randy Lange, Caroline Hendershot and John Pullano will answer a series of questions about this year’s Jets.

Question of the day: What do you expect from Jets QB Aaron Rodgers in his return to action against the 49ers?

EA: San Francisco HC Kyle Shanahan has hired defensive coordinator Nick Sorensen to lead a unit featuring DE Nick Bosa, LB Fred Warner and CB Charvarius Ward. The Jets will counter with Aaron Rodgers, an improved offensive line and young stars at the skill positions, as well as promising wide receiver options like Mike Williams and Malachi Corley. In nine regular season games against the ‘Niners, Rodgers, a native of Chico, Calif., who played at the collegiate level at Butte JC and California, has completed 66.2% of his passes for 20 yards and 20 TDs while posting a 107.5 QB rating. Although Rodgers is 40, is returning from a torn Achilles and hasn’t played in 364 days, he is still a physically gifted talent with a special football mind. Rodgers has been great all summer and I expect him to have a good night against the ‘Niners. When he’s on the field, the Jets have a chance to win every game this season – including Monday. Consider what All-Pro LB Warner said about Rodgers this week: “He’s always been smart enough to extend plays, make the big plays, keep control of the game and make the plays in the crucial moments. So there’s nothing you can say exactly like, ‘We have to stop him from doing that.’ You have to be prepared for everything, so we’re going to have a big test ahead of us.”

Eg: I expect an impressive performance. I won’t put numbers on that, but I think fans watching Monday night’s game will be impressed with Aaron Rodgers, who has a career passer rating of 103.9 against the 49ers after sitting out last season. He was certainly impressive throwing the ball throughout training camp and showed off his agility after an Achilles injury. The Jets have the makings of one of the league’s best offenses, but the biggest question is how long it will take for the unit to gel. Teams with continuity need time to find a rhythm. Nearly all of the Green & Whites’ starters on offense, including three new offensive linemen, did not play in the preseason. Robert Saleh said the Jets increased their reps during training camp to simulate game-like situations and be able to hit the ground running. Although Rodgers could be considered a rookie, having yet to complete a single pass for the Jets during the regular season, he already meshes well with wide receiver Garrett Wilson, who is already in his third year, and wide receiver Allen Lazard, who was his teammate on the Packers for five seasons.
