West Point Municipal Planning Board approves dedication of Love’s Truck Stop road

Published on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, 11:12 am

The West Point City Planning Board has approved the recommendation to transfer Love’s Truck Stop road to the city.

The Love’s Truck Stop road is a 100-foot-wide, 712-foot-long strip created during the rest stop’s construction. Now, the company is donating the road to the city for future use. The 100-foot-wide strip, owned by J&H Homeplace LLC, is considered a major thoroughfare, a high-capacity city street.

Now that the city planning committee has approved the inauguration, the city council can approve the new city street. Maintenance will become the responsibility of the city.

The road can then be used by the next developer who wants to build at I-85 Exit 2. According to the meeting packet, an unnamed developer is trying to buy the adjacent property for an unnamed development.

According to Community Development Director Dennis Dutton, there are several properties near Exit 2 on I-85 that are being considered for commercial and residential development.

Dutton said the project delay was partly due to the weather.

Love’s Truck Stop held its grand opening in November 2023. With the opening of the facility, four businesses came to West Point: Love’s Gas Station, Hardee’s, Godfather’s, and Speedco, which opened a month after Love’s Gas Station.

When it opened, Love’s hired 140 local employees to staff the facility. Love’s Truck Stop has 18 gasoline fueling stations, two of which are equipped with Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) pumps, and 17-23 diesel fueling stations equipped with DEF pumps.
