Week 4 Monday Night Football: Patriots rooting guide, game tips, open thread

For the second year in a row, the football weekend will conclude with a doubleheader on Monday evening. First, the Miami Dolphins turn to center Tyler Huntley as they welcome the Tennessee Titans to town. Then there will be a duel between two of the top teams in the NFC in Detroit: The Lions will host the Seattle Seahawks.

Check out tonight’s Pats Pulpit picks below and visit the comments section to further discuss Friday night’s action.

Guide to Rooting the Patriots

Tennessee Titans (0-3) vs. Miami Dolphins (1-2): Go Titans! No wonder, since the Patriots will face the AFC East in this game. | 7:30 p.m. ET, ESPN

Seattle Seahawks (3-0) vs. Detroit Lions (2-1): Have a good game! The strength of New England’s schedule will be impacted by Seattle, but that won’t be a major factor at this point in the season. | 8:15 p.m. ET, ABC

Patriots picks

Oliver Thomas: A winless Titans team faces Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. But their downfield speed couldn’t be showcased in the quarterback’s musical chairs. It’s over as the ground game averaged 3.7 yards per carry this September. | Titans 17, Dolphins 9

At 37, Mike Macdonald is the first head coach in Seahawks history to begin his tenure 3-0. But I’ll take Dan Campbell’s 2-1 Lions at Ford Field as Aidan Hutchinson’s sack streak continues. | Lions 27, Seahawks 23

Brian Hines: The second year for Will Levis hasn’t started as well as anyone would have hoped at Tennessee, but he should be able to outperform the recently added Tyler Huntley. Luckily, we have another game that can distract us from this game. | Titans 17, Dolphins 6

Geno Smith continues to be one of the best stories in football while Mike Macdonald has the Seahawks going 3-0. But their run will come to an end on Monday night in Detroit as they struggle to slow the Lions without top pass rusher Boye Mafe. | Lions 27, Seahawks 20

Bernd Buchmasser: Both the Titans and Dolphins have a lot of problems heading into their Monday night meeting, but Miami is worse off on paper: There’s only so much you can do when starting a third-string quarterback. However, that doesn’t mean that guests will simply run away with this game. Expect a close, low-scoring affair. | Titans 17, Dolphins 10

The Lions may be considered 4.5-point favorites heading into this game, but it could well come down to the wire – that’s how evenly matched these two teams are. Regardless of the outcome, Week 4 will end with a big matchup. | Lions 27, Seahawks 24
