Wedding photographer from Minnesota is said to have secretly filmed clients

A popular Minnesota photographer is facing charges after police say he secretly filmed a half-naked bride in a dressing room.

The investigation began in April after Mitchell Ringness’ partner gave police a USB stick. According to court documents, investigators found a video on it showing a bride in lingerie with her breasts exposed.

Police determined the video was recorded at a wedding in October 2020 at the Barn of Chapeau Shores in Albert Lea.

Ringness, 30, of Pine City, runs the Duluth-based firm Mr. Photography but photographs weddings across the state, according to his website.

Taylor Hughes, who went to high school with Ringness, admired his work and hired him for her wedding in 2022. She said she feared she could be a victim, too.

“The thought that I may have been spied on – and not just me, but my wedding party as well – is, I think, a lot to process,” she said.

Hughes said Ringness also filmed her friend’s wedding in early August, four months after the investigation began but before prosecutors filed charges against him.

“We definitely want justice. We want more to happen, like a full investigation,” she said. “My heart goes out to the bride who is on the video they found.”

In a statement, the venue’s owners, Chad and Jayne Iverson, said, among other things: “The safety of our wedding couple and all guests is of paramount importance to us, so we have been very saddened by this news. Our deepest condolences go out to everyone affected by this individual.”

Ringness could not be reached for comment.

He was issued a summons for a gross misdemeanor. It is unclear when he will appear in court.
