A couple in the USA demanded money from their guests to participate in recent wedding to cover the costs of the event.
Newlyweds Nova and Reemo Styles admit that there was some resistance to their request.
Bride Nova told ABC7 they were originally listed at 150,000 US dollars ($227,936) for the wedding.
“That’s the number they started with,” she explained.

To save costs, Nova suggested charging guests a participation fee.
“And I said, ‘People go to a Beyoncé concert because they know they’re going to have an experience. Let’s pressure guests and sell tickets to a wedding,'” Nova said.

“I thought, ‘Baby, people aren’t going to come,’” Reemo admits.
The couple decided to charge each guest $333 ($510), which earned them a seat on a double-decker bus for the reception, which took them on a 12-hour adventure in New York City.
The move saved the couple $70,000 ($106,260).
They encountered resistance from some guests.

“‘I would never spend money on tickets.’ ‘I don’t care.’ ‘Who do you think you are? Jay-Z and Beyoncé?'” Nova recalled one invitee saying.
Many of their guests decided to participate and the couple stands by their decision.
The practice of charging guests entry to weddings has been described as “tasteless” and “ridiculous.” The Wedding Wire Forum.
“This is tasteless! I would never think of making someone pay to come to my wedding! This is just ridiculous…” said one.
“I would never pay to go to a wedding because I’m already paying to get there – gas, time to get ready, a gift, that’s money/time I could spend elsewhere,” said another.
“This is probably the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. I imagine a lot of guests would say no,” added another.
According to Easy Weddings, the average cost of attending a wedding in Australia is now $33,810, with 22 percent of couples surveyed saying they spent 22 percent more than their original wedding budget.
Most Australian couples have a wedding budget of around $27,650.
