WEATHER WARNING: Flood warning issued for Montgomery and surrounding counties

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – As the remnants of Hurricane Helene are expected to bring heavy rainfall to Clarksville, a Flood Warning has been issued for Thursday evening through Saturday morning.

“Excessive runoff may cause flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone areas,” the National Weather Service warning said. “Crossings at low water levels may be inundated.”

Meteorologist Sam Herron of the National Weather Service in Nashville said when Helene arrives, “things will get wild pretty quickly.”

“The deep tropical moisture associated with Hurricane Helene will come in here and pretty much drench the area (Thursday) and into Friday,” Herron told Clarksville Now.

An NWS model shows Montgomery and surrounding counties expecting 4 to 5 inches of rain through Saturday. Rainfall should begin Thursday evening.

As the storm approaches, wind warnings for gusts of 40 to 45 miles per hour could be issued for parts or all of the central state, but there is too much uncertainty about exact locations at this time, the NWS said.

“All of that will calm down a little bit over the course of Saturday and Sunday, but a lot of that moisture will still be there,” Herron said. “So scattered showers and thunderstorms throughout the weekend before the weather finally clears out over the course of next week and we return to a drier weather pattern.”
