Banneker High School (FOX 5)
FULTON COUNTY, Georgia. – A gun was found at Banneker High School on Thursday.
Fulton County Schools says the campus was placed on “hard lockdown” after reports of a weapon. School officials say a search found an air rifle.
“We have identified the affected students and secured the campus,” Banneker Principal Vincent Golden wrote in a letter to parents and guardians.
The lockdown was lifted after the air rifle was found.
“As a parent and educator, I need your cooperation to contact your student following today’s events. Let me be clear that as a school principal, I will take every action at my disposal to ensure the safety of our school,” Golden wrote. “Student behavior that compromises the safety of our school will not be tolerated. Please reiterate that to your student tonight.”

The principal acknowledged that such curfews can be frightening, disruptive and cause anxiety, and thanked students and parents for their efforts to maintain safety on campus.
There is no information as to whether criminal prosecution or proceedings will be initiated against those involved.
