“We will be here” with hurricane relief, Trump says during Evans visit

EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Two days after his rival Kamala Harris came to Augusta to view the damage from Hurricane Helene and pledge federal aidwas Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in the CSRA.

He went to Evans to learn about hurricane recovery.

The Trump jet landed in Augusta around 2:10 p.m., and Trump stepped off the plane about 30 minutes later, waving briefly as he walked down the stairs.

He was asked a few questions on the tarmac.

When asked what the Biden administration didn’t do with Helene that it should have done, he pointed to the theft of Federal Emergency Management Agency funds and spending money on migrants in the country without legal authorization.

“This is the worst government in the history of the country,” he said before getting into a black vehicle.

He later went to the Columbia County Emergency Operations Center for a briefing with Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp.

He and Kemp then spoke to the media.

Kemp said he and his wife, Marty, have spent the last few days traveling the state to view the damage from Helene.

He said, despite the stories of tragedies – tragedies like that Death of Kobe Williams and her two-week-old twin children in McDuffie County – He has heard other stories of survival and perseverance.

He said he was sending all resources at his disposal to help with the hurricane response.

Trump began speaking around 3:50 p.m. and spoke for about 10 minutes.

MORE FROM NEWS 12:

“Your governor is doing a fantastic job; I will tell you,” he said.

Trump said he had just met a group of “really wonderful patriots,” people who “say they’ve never seen anything like this.”

He said he wanted to thank them and others who are working hard after the storm.

“When you look and see the suffering there is right now, one of the question marks is the many people who are still missing,” he said.

As for Williams, the mother who died with her babiesTrump said: “Such a sudden and tragic loss must be unbearable for her family.”

Work is still being done on the damaged homes and roads, he said, but “I can tell you that I have no doubt that everything that can be done is being done. … It’s a very heartbreaking situation.”

He said if he is elected president again, he will ensure that the state receives “the best treatment.”

“Whenever the governor needs us, we’ll be here,” Trump said.

When asked questions by reporters later, he described his relationship with Kemp — a man with whom he feuded for years after the 2020 election — as good.

“It’s great,” he said. “We worked together. We have always worked very, very well together.”

He again criticized the Biden government’s reaction to Helene.

“It was a terrible response from the White House,” he said

Elaborating further, he said:

“You’re missing out on a billion dollars that were used for another purpose.”

When he talked about the jobs lost, he blamed one particular neighborhood.

“The illegals have taken more jobs than anyone else. “We need to create jobs for people who have lived here for a long time,” he said

“A lot of the money that was supposed to go to Georgia, North Carolina and many other countries has gone to people who came into the country illegally,” he said.

He spoke briefly about the poll numbers for himself and Harris, but ultimately said the election wasn’t bothering him at the moment.

“I’m not thinking about the voters at the moment; I think about life,” he said.

“Right now our focus is on this; We’re not focused on the election.”
