“We have a lot of good players” – every word from Arne Slot’s press conference after the game against West Ham

On the game against Brighton in the next round…

It’s a difficult draw again. I think almost all the teams left are strong and you know if you want to win a cup or this cup you have to play against tough opponents – and that was West Ham tonight. I would have preferred to play at home because our schedule is already so tight and we have so many games that you don’t want to travel. If I’m not mistaken Brighton are not right next door – it’s quite a far game but it’s a high-class opponent again.

About Federico Chiesa’s performance…

It was pleasing to see him being able to play 60 minutes already because I think I said in the last press conference he hasn’t played much, maybe barely a minute in the last three or four months. So for him it’s important not only to get fitter but also to get playing minutes – and he got that today. He assisted, even though it was a shot on goal that allowed Diogo to score, worked really hard and I think it’s normal that he’s not at his best yet. He needs to get used to the club, he needs to get used to his teammates, he needs to adapt to the style of play. It was very good to see how fit he already is so we can use him when we need him.

How to keep Jota as fit as possible…

Rotate. I think we try to manage his playing time as best as we can like the others but we also try to prepare them for as many Premier League games during the week and during the first few months of pre-season. Sometimes there are little differences, sometimes you can be unlucky too. If you saw what happened with Rodri, that’s so, so unlucky for him. We try to prepare them as best as we can but in the end you need a bit of luck as well. What players can do is be as professional as they can and live as best as they can for their careers and I think that’s what they’ve done so far and what they’re doing at the moment – and we as a team are trying to prepare them as best as we can so they can get through this period without injuries.
