Byron Kilbourn Elementary in north Milwaukee has something special that keeps teachers there throughout their teaching careers.
In Kilbourn alone, eleven teachers have been teaching for 300 years. Sharon Redel has been teaching grades 3K, 4K and 5K in the district for 37 years.
She says that even after all these years, she still really enjoys going to work. She says she still enjoys it so much that it doesn’t feel like work.

“I love what I do, I love the children and dealing with the parents,” added Redel.
Over the years, Redel fought outside the classroom for political change for students.
She says she will retire soon, but for now she is ready to begin her 38th year as a student at Kilbourn Elementary School.
