Watch these seniors learn the new Olympic sport of breakdancing

A group of 100 seniors put aside their ballroom dancing shoes to watch a breakdancing performance at an event at a nursing home in Framlingham, UK.

After a performance by an international choreographer, the seniors were invited to join in. And they didn’t hesitate and showed off their best moves from the comfort of their chairs.

The care home provider Care UK organised the event. In addition to breakdancing, the seniors tried weightlifting with foam weights, rhythmic gymnastics in teams and shot put with mini sandbags.

But the main event was breakdancing, also called breaking, and coincided with its premiere as an Olympic discipline in Paris.

“Many residents have incredibly fond memories of past Olympics, so our event was a great opportunity for them to reminisce and share their highlights from previous years,” said Jennie Rodgers, Care UK’s Suffolk Regional Director. “While many residents are keen ballroom dancers, it’s safe to say they really enjoyed breakdancing, even though they’ve never done anything like it before.”
