Watch Jean Smart’s SNL Monologue & Sketches starting September 28th

Between singing a beautiful and hilarious tribute to New York City, portraying the “Chimpanzee Lady” and playing a fajita-dodging Real Housewife, Jean Smart hit the nail on the head her first time hosting Saturday Night Live. In fact, the show was so packed (and so star-studded in the cold) that Smart’s episode includes two timely sketches, which you can watch below.

Watch the Season 50 premiere Saturday Night Live September 28 at 11:30/10:30c on NBC and the next day on Peacock.

“Honestly, I remember watching the very first episode of SNL and thinking, ‘One day I’m going to host this show.’ And this was the first Saturday that fit into my schedule,” said the six-time Emmy winner Hacks Star joked in her monologue, addressing the fact that she’s somehow never been a host.

Jean Smart sings Cole Porter’s “I Happen to Like New York.” SNL

In Smart’s monologue, she sang a reworked version of Cole Porter’s “I Happen to Like New York,” made famous by artists such as Judy Garland.

“Around the same time I started my career in New York Saturday Night Live started. I didn’t really believe it was live,” Smart said between bars in a performance that would win her over Hacks Character Deborah Vance proud. “Seriously? I thought SNL stood for it Saturday night laughs. And then I watched the show and thought, “This can’t be right.”

Smarts SNL In this episode she played a romance novelist turned textbook author, a dramatic classic film actress and, in an unaired sketch, a House of the Dragon Character. Their reach remains undisputed.

The premiere was so full that there was no room for two more sketches: “Blonde Dragon People,” a House of the Dragon Parody, which left viewers struggling to remember the storylines after years of airing, and the pre-recorded “A Father’s Promise”.

Andy Samberg and musical guest Jelly Roll appeared as “blonde dragon people” in a skit that upended both the show itself and its network’s ever-changing name.

The heartwarming pre-written skit tells the story of a father (Andrew Dismukes) who surprises his wife (Jean Smart) by showing up at a baseball game with his son (Marcello Hernández). From there, his surprises only get wilder.
