To the great surprise of his fans, footage of the electronic musician DJing in front of fewer than 100 people began circulating on TikTok and Twitter/X last night.

Despite the small crowd, the electronic artist left no detail out and used his trademark disorienting visuals to accompany his set. Short clips shared online also show him playing “The Bells” by British drum and bass producer Jonny L.

According to a participant on TikTok, Aphex Twin – real name Richard David James – had known the groom for years and had DJed as a wedding gift.

Other guests at the wedding reception included British electronic musician Luke Vibert and a DJ from London record label futureRetro.

Check it out below.

The atmosphere was different from his 2019 Printworks appearance, which NME gave a rave five-star review, with writer Alex Hoban calling Aphex Twin “one of the most accomplished and talented electronic artists on the planet” and the performance “one of the greatest electronic shows in the world.”

In June, Aphex Twin announced the release of an expanded edition of “Selected Ambient Works Volume II”.

The reissue of the 1994 album includes a fold-out poster, sticker sheet and a booklet with sketches on the development of the artwork by Paul Nicholson. It comes in a hinged oak case and etched copper plate. Each copy is unique and made to order.

It will be available as a 4-LP set, 3-CD set and deluxe 4-LP box set. The 30th anniversary edition of Selected Ambient Works Volume II will be released on October 4th via Warp. You can pre-order it here.

Earlier this year, Aphex Twin again clarified his stance on vaccinations after an old note of his resurfaced that appeared to promote conspiracy theories.

A Reddit user recently came across an ID3 tag apparently written in 2014 by electronic musician, real name Richard D. James, that read, “Vaccines are toxic, mercury, aluminum cans + autism, cancer,” and also mentioned other conspiracies related to 9/11, chemtrails, and others.

In response to the day, James took to Soundcloud and shed some light on the matter (via Stereo rubber). “Hi, I’ve been getting some messages regarding a text message that I seem to have inserted into an ID3 tag,” he began.

“My opinion on vaccinations is that I am not against them in principle, but you should examine them on a case-by-case basis, look at what is in them, get informed and decide whether it is right for you or your loved ones. It is up to each individual whether they get vaccinated or not.”

In July last year, Aphex Twin released his latest EP, “Blackbox Life Recorder 21f / in a room7 F760,” his first new music in five years. The EP’s title track was later released on NME‘s 50 best songs of 2023. The EP also spawned its own augmented reality app.
