Warmer than normal temperatures are expected in Maine this October

PORTLAND (WGME) – It’s hard to believe that October starts on Tuesday.

After a very dry September, can this trend be expected to continue into October?

Before we take a look, let’s take a step back and think about what happened at the Portland Jetport in September.

The jetport was the driest on record for most of September until 1.77 inches of rain fell on September 26th. This brought the monthly rainfall total to 1.93 inches.

The high temperature was 83 degrees on September 17th and the coolest low was 43 degrees on September 11th.

However, let’s leave September in the past and move on to October.

On October 1st, the average daily high temperature at the jetport is 65 degrees with an average low temperature of 46 degrees.

As we head into Halloween, both temperatures will drop around 10 degrees.

The average rainfall in October is 5.25 inches. The average first fall frost usually occurs around October 15th. Therefore, it is important to monitor overnight lows as they fall if you have crops or vegetation.

NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center released its October temperature and precipitation forecasts on September 30.

Scientists are predicting warmer than normal temperatures for the new month.

They are also predicting a near-normal October.

We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
