Walz says he missed the call from Harris asking him to be his vice presidential candidate

(FOX 9)Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said he initially missed the call from Vice President Kamala Harris asking him to be her running mate.

Missed call from the Vice President

In a video posted to X recapping his first week as the Democratic vice presidential nominee, Walz said he began his week by “missing a call from the vice president. And a pretty important one,” referring to the call in which Harris asked him to be her running mate.

Walz then goes on to say that he finally got the call and that he is “honored to be leading the candidacy with Kamala Harris and leading us in a great direction.”

“Whirlwind” campaign week

Walz goes on to say that after the phone call, “everything just flew by.” He then goes on to describe in detail how he flew to Philadelphia and was told he would have to give a speech within the hour. He used a teleprompter, something Walz says he had never used in his life. He was “terrified.”

However, he says the people of Philadelphia have been very encouraging to him and praises Harris’ speech at the rally.

Walz then campaigned in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, which made him feel “a little closer to home.”

The Harris-Walz campaign team then held rallies in Detroit and Phoenix and ended the week in Las Vegas.

Walz ends the video with the words: “We are just getting started. But it is already underway.”

A look into the future

According to the Associated Press, Walz will campaign alone this week, starting Tuesday in Los Angeles, where he will speak at the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees convention. He will then head to Newport Beach, California, for a campaign fundraiser.

He will then travel to Denver and Boston on Wednesday, where he will speak at fundraisers for his election campaign. On Thursday he will travel to Newport, Rhode Island, and Southampton, New York.
