Walz for Trump: Tim Walz’s family supports Trump? Truth behind the viral photo

“Walz’s for Trump” took over the internet on Wednesday after a photo went viral of eight family members purporting to be the family of Tim Walz, Kamala Harris’ running mate, claiming they were all supporting Donald Trump in November’s election. The people in the photo were wearing blue t-shirts that read “Walz’s for Trump.” But as the photo went viral, social media users claimed it was artificially generated – created by the Republican campaign team. On Truth Social, Donald Trump shared a post about the photo and thanked Jeff for the “support.”
A community note on X stated that in the poorly done AI image, everyone in the photo has four fingers.
The photo went viral and was believable because Tim Walz’s older brother Jeff is against Tim and is known to be a Republican. Jeff, 67, said he is 100% against Tim’s ideology. He also said he would be willing to publicly support Donald Trump but was undecided about whether to drag the family into politics.
“The stories I could tell are not the kind of character you want to make decisions about your own future,” he said.

While Republicans were delighted with the revelation that they had found something to counter Trump family members’ opposition to Trump, Jeff said he was a Republican but did not want to influence the public. “It was not my intention, it was not our intention as a family, to publish something to influence the public,” Jeff Walz said NewsNation.
“I got a lot of feedback from my friends and old acquaintances who thought I felt the same way as my brother on this issue, and I tried to make that clear only to my friends,” said Jeff Walz. “I used Facebook, which was not the right platform for it. But I have to say, I don’t agree with his policies.”
As for the “stories I could tell,” Jeff softened his words and said he meant stories from his childhood, like how Tim was car sick and none of his siblings liked sitting with him—nothing bad.
“Nobody wanted to sit with him because he was sick and throwing up, stuff like that,” Jeff Walz said. “There’s really nothing else hidden there. People assume something else. There are other stories like this, but I think this probably gives you the gist of it.”
