Virginia Tech target: Four-star Messiah Delhomme announces his commitment

Messiah Delhomme, a four-star athlete in the class of 2025 and a target for Virginia Tech, will not attend Virginia Tech.

According to On3’s RPM (Recruiting Prediction Machine), it was a neck-and-neck race between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan Wolverines. When he committed, Ohio State had a 74.0% chance of getting Messiah and Michigan had a 14.0% chance. Virginia Tech wasn’t high on that list, in fact they were listed as a team that had less than a one percent chance of getting Messiah. He has long loved the atmosphere at Ohio State and was quoted as saying, “When you’re there, you get this exciting feeling. The team chemistry they have is really good.”

Delhomme chose neither of those teams, instead choosing the Maryland Terrapins. The Terrapins gained momentum toward the end of his recruiting process and drafted him out of Ohio State.

Delhomme’s final list consisted of six teams: the four schools he attended – Virginia Tech, Maryland, Ohio State and Virginia – and two other programs: the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Syracuse Orange.

Delhomme is a widely recognized four-star player from Virginia. He attends Warwick High School in Newport News.

He is listed as a 6-foot-1, 195-pound two-way athlete. 247Sports lists him as the fourth-best player in the state, the 11th-best safety in the class of 2025 and the 115th-best player in the country. He has additional offers from Auburn, Boston College, Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, Florida State, James Madison, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan, NC State, Old Dominion, Penn State and West Virginia.

Here’s a scouting report on Delhomme, courtesy of Greg Biggins, a national recruiting analyst for 247Sports:

“Rare player that could excel on both sides of the ball as well as the return game at the college level. Safety could be his livelihood, but he also shows the ability to play running back or receiver. Instinctive player with range and ball skills as a safety. Attacks the football and has very good ball awareness. Has been a ball magnet the last couple seasons and is a scoring threat every time he loses the ball. Track and field background and personal best 11.12 100m dash as a sophomore. Always seems to be in the right place at the right time and has a great natural feel for the game. Even running the ball, he has an innate sense for running into daylight, can make subtle cuts to miss a defender and then run. Also makes plays in the vertical passing game, winning several 50-50 balls with a defender on him. Solid 6-1, 200 pounds and plays a physical game on both sides of the ball. High football IQ should allow him to see the field early in college and definitely has NFL potential.”

Messiah Delhomme would have been the second safety in Virginia Tech’s 2025 recruiting class, joining three-star Sheldon Robinson of Woodberry Forest High School. Virginia Tech is still ranked in the top 50 according to 247Sports and has 15 commitments for the class of 2025.
