Virginia Tech is the latest to feel the wrath of Paul Finebaum

Florida State was on Paul Finebaum’s radar this summer, and not for good reasons. The outspoken ESPN talk show host targeted the Seminoles a few weeks ago when he said they had shed too many tears after being eliminated from the four-team College Football Playoff last season.

As an SEC commentator, Finebaum rarely watches anything outside the mighty SEC and was a guest on ESPN’s Get Up with Matt Barrie and Heather Dinich on Friday. Barrie released his 12-team CFP roster, which included Georgia, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Oklahoma State, Ohio State, Texas, Alabam, Ole Miss, Penn State, Missouri, Utah and Memphis.

Dinich disagreed with Barrie’s 12 teams and so did Finebaum, of course. When he broke down the list, he naturally began with Virginia Tech being on it.

“This is a pretty embarrassing field,” Finebaum said. “I don’t know what you’re thinking. Oklahoma State is going to be nothing and Virginia Tech? I mean, Matt, please, you have to go to Virginia Tech at the beginning of the season to try to butter them up. I can’t think of anything that can compare to the idiocy of this thing.”

Finebaum is clearly not on the Virginia Tech hype train for the 2024 season. By and large, no one should expect less from him. Of course, the Hokies have little chance of getting into the CFP, and they also have little chance of winning the ACC Championship. They have a doable schedule to do both, but it will be a difficult road. I see them going 10-2 overall and 6-2 in the ACC and that won’t be good enough to get to the ACC Championship game.

No matter what happens, hello Florida State fans, Virginia Tech has joined you and will feel the wrath of Paul Finebaum in 2024.
