Vince McMahon criticizes Netflix documentary “Mr. McMahon” as “misleading”

Former WWE boss Vince McMahon speaks out against the Netflix documentary series “Mr. McMahon” ahead of its release.

In a statement posted on his official X account (formerly Twitter), McMahon wrote: “I have no regrets about participating in this Netflix documentary. The producers had the opportunity to tell an objective story about my life and the incredible business I’ve built that was equally full of excitement, drama, fun and a ton of controversy and life lessons. Unfortunately, based on an early cut I saw, this documentary falls short of expectations and goes down the predictable path of confusing the character ‘Mr. McMahon’ with the real me, Vince. The title and promotion alone make that clear.”

“Much has been misrepresented or left out entirely to intentionally confuse viewers,” he continued. “The producers use typical editing tricks with out-of-context footage and outdated soundbites, etc. to distort viewers’ perceptions and support a misleading narrative. In an attempt to bolster their misleading portrayal, the producers use a lawsuit stemming from an affair I ended as evidence that I am in fact ‘Mr. McMahon.’ I hope the viewer keeps an open mind and remembers that there are two sides to every story.”

“Mr. McMahon” is set to debut in full on Netflix on September 25. The series consists of six one-hour episodes and details McMahon’s early life and his takeover of the then WWF from his father until his departure from the company following allegations of sexual abuse and human trafficking by a former WWE employee.

The series features interviews with McMahon himself as well as WWE legends such as Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, John Cena and Paul “Triple H” Levesque.

Chris Smith is the director and executive producer of the docuseries. Bill Simmons and Zara Duffy are executive producers of “Mr. McMahon.” The series is produced by Library Films in association with Ringer Films.
