Video shows suspect and gunshots in death of man found near dumpster

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) – Las Vegas police said footage from an SD card led to the arrest of a suspect accused of a fatal shooting, according to an arrest report obtained by FOX5.

Jaron Amey, 35, was taken into custody on Wednesday, August 14, after a man was found dead next to a dumpster on Maryland Parkway three days earlier.

Officers with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 5000 block of Maryland Parkway on August 11 at approximately 9:53 p.m. A victim of the shooting was found lying in a nearby parking lot with gunshot wounds.

Police said the victim, 46-year-old Eric Davis, was later confirmed dead at the scene.

During an investigation, police were given an SD card from an “anonymous camera” that contained footage of the incident. Investigators determined that Amey and Davis were seen in the footage, followed by gunshots outside of the camera’s field of view.

According to the report, the video then showed Amey walking away from the area, apparently placing a gun in his waistband.

The report also noted that several witnesses claimed the shooting was the result of a dispute over money.

On Tuesday, August 12, a woman claiming to be Amey’s girlfriend flagged down police and claimed that Amey was holding two men hostage at gunpoint in a security booth. She told officers that Amey was angry because she and the two hostages had “ratted him out to the police.”

Amey released the hostage and fled the scene before police arrived.

After questioning his girlfriend and other witnesses, the police managed to arrest Amey at his current residence and take him into custody.

During an interview, Amey told police that Davis approached him and “charged at him.” Amey admitted that he shot Davis after he “would not back down.”

Amey is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center and is facing charges of murder, kidnapping and robbery. He is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on October 17.
