Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened to one smitten Rams fan when his significant other – a Chargers fan – turned down his marriage proposal at the teams’ preseason game on Saturday.
Or was that it?
Upon closer inspection, it becomes clear that the incident was faked. Unlike Chargers fan Merriane Do, who many thought was staged by the team due to her passionate facial expressions last year, this viral moment was the work of team insiders who were able to plant the actors because the all-LA contest was technically a Chargers home game.

During the Kiss Cam activation at the Rams-Chargers game, the camera focused on an innocent-looking couple in the crowd. Almost immediately, the man jumps up and drops to one knee while his alleged girlfriend shakes her head.
He proposes to her and she clearly declines, just before another Chargers fan coming down the stairs spills her nachos into his Puka Nacua jersey. An appropriate time to embarrass a Rams fan at a Chargers home game.

Athletic Rams sports reporter Jourdan Rodrigue confirmed on X that the incident was fake, writing that she observed the rehearsals. Still, social media was quick to suspect there was something fishy about the situation. Here are some of the best responses to the viral video.
