Aspinwall, 39, is the team’s defensive coordinator and will be hired in 2023.

“It’s just so hard to believe that someone you’ve spent so much time with — because this is my second year with the coach — is basically like family,” sophomore football player Isaiah Hooks said. “So to turn around and know that he’s not going to be there.”

He previously attended Mountain View High School in Lawrenceville. Mountain View HS Athletics posted a heartfelt message on their Facebook page:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of former Mountain View High School teacher and coach Ricky Aspinwall, who lost his life today at Apalachee High School. Mountain View extends its deepest condolences to the entire Apalachee High School community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this tragic time.”

The Roman native was previously a teacher at Dunwoody High School.

Brandon Gill, football coach at Buford High School, posted a photo of himself and Coach Aspinwall on his X-Account:

“Incredibly heartbroken over the loss of our dear friend @CoachAwall… He was truly as awesome as can be. A damn good human being. Would do anything for anyone. Great husband, father, teacher and coach. I will never forget you brother! RIP Rick-Bo”

Christina Irmie was part of the mathematics department at Apalachee High School.

The students described the 53-year-old teacher as patient and caring.

Mason Schermerhorn

Family members told FOX 5 that Mason Schemerhorn was 14 years old.

He was a freshman at Apalachee High School.

Christian Angulo

Friends remember freshman Christian Angulo as a free spirit who loved to make others laugh. The 14-year-old was described as “laid back” but full of life and energy.

“I was like, ‘What’s going on?’ And then I checked the family group chat and my sister said there was a shooting in Apalache and I was like, ‘This isn’t real, this can’t be happening,'” said Abner Sanz, who has been friends with 14-year-old Christian Angulo since middle school. “I started asking other people if it was true that he died because I just wanted to know. I just didn’t want to believe it because you would never think that someone you know would just die like that,” Sanz said.
