Victim of Tropical Storm Debby was swept away by the floods on his way to work

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB/Gray News) – A body found in a submerged vehicle has been identified as that of a man who went missing after Tropical Storm Debbie made landfall in Florida.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Jose Andino’s body was pulled from a vehicle on Philippi Creek near Graber and Kaufman avenues on Monday.

Andino was on his way to work from Sarasota to Bradenton last week when he encountered flooded roads.

His cell phone last beeped near the creek, where massive flooding was reported in the area due to the tropical storm.

Officials said Andino was found in his 2005 Toyota 4Runner.

A passerby discovered the vehicle when the water level in the area finally began to drop.

Prior to the discovery, the sheriff’s office had issued a missing person report for Andino.

Sarasota authorities said they continue to investigate the situation.

The man’s family has now set up a GoFundMe account to help with funeral arrangements.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that my father tragically passed away after his car was swept into Philippi Creek on his way to work,” said his daughter Scarleth Andino. “Thank you to our search and rescue teams and the support of the community.”

Anyone with further information is asked to contact the Saratoga County Criminal Investigation Division at 941-861-4900.
