Vice President Kamala Harris visits Detroit to celebrate Labor Day with union members

DETROIT – Vice President Kamala Harris visited Detroit to celebrate Labor Day with union members.

On Monday (September 2), the presidential candidate praised the influence of Detroit’s unions on workers’ rights.

“For generations, our brothers and sisters of labor in Detroit and across the country have stood together to demand fair wages, better benefits and safe working conditions,” Harris said. “And I can say that every person in our country has benefited from that work.”

Harris’ stopover is her fourth trip to Michigan this year.

As the November election approaches, Harris and Donald Trump’s campaigns are focusing heavily on Michigan this year.

Harris has just left the stage where President Joe Biden campaigned at a Detroit gym and declared Motown “Joe Town,” but things have quickly changed.

“Don’t we love Labor Day?” Harris said. “We love Labor Day.”

Labor Day is a big deal in Detroit, and Harris knows that a campaign stop in Detroit is a must—Harris’ message was to thank a union member.

“We celebrate unions because they helped build America and the middle class,” Harris said. “Everywhere I go, I tell people they should thank a union member for the five-day work week. They should thank a union member for sick leave. They should thank a union member for paid vacation. They should thank a union member for vacations.”

The event was a private meeting of union members in the Northwest High School gymnasium.

During the rally in Detroit, Harris talked a lot about former President Donald Trump and the accomplishments of the Biden-Harris administration or what the Biden-Harris administration is currently doing to solve problems that are deeply present in Detroit, such as inflation.

“We are all in the same boat,” Harris said.

Detroit native Dale Moore said Harris had a lot of energy in the gym.

When asked what motivated her to come out of the house and join the line for the campaign rally, she responded with the new face of America.

“This is what America looks like,” Moore said. “We are not going back.”

With only 64 days left until the election, Harris said she will continue to return to Michigan to campaign, as will Trump.

The rally is Harris’ first stop on a busy Labor Day for the campaign. Later that evening, she will hold a rally with Biden in Pittsburgh.

The Trump campaign team has responded to Harris’ visit to Detroit.

“Their attack on America’s energy supply has made the cost of living unaffordable, and their plan to ban gasoline-powered cars will destroy the backbone of our economy. President Donald Trump will return us to an energy plan that addresses all of the above, protects Michigan’s auto jobs, and supports American workers.”
