Nigeria, Abuja: The Transmission System Operator of Nigeria (TCN) says his tower T372, along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330 kV transmission linewas destroyed by vandals. Ndidi MbahGeneral Manager, Public Affairs, TCN, said in a statement that the incident occurred at about 1:44am on Saturday at Kasaisa village, Gujba LGA, along Biu-Damaturu road.
“This development has cut off power supply to the entire Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, up to Maiduguri in Borno State. This time, the vandals have severed all four pole foundations, resulting in the collapse of pole T372 along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri stretch, which was discovered by TCN linemen on emergency patrol. In the meantime, following this destructive attack, TCN engineers are endeavouring to restore power supply to Damaturu through a 33kV transmission line from Potiskum, while Maiduguri city is supplied by the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP),” TCN said.
Work to dismantle and evacuate the collapsed tower to reconstruct and restore the transmission line will commence immediately. The company urged Nigerians to “report any suspicious activities or persons near our transmission infrastructure to law enforcement agencies or TCN offices nearby.” TCN assured of speedy restoration of main power supply to the affected areas and said it would expedite reconstruction work on the tower to ensure it is completed as soon as possible.
