Valhalla will host an international women’s competition in 2028

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The Ladies Professional Golf Association Commissioner met with city and state leaders this morning at Valhalla Golf Club to announce that a major women’s golf championship will soon be held in Louisville.

In 2028, Valhalla will host the 21st Solheim Cup, a biennial international competition pitting the best female players from the LPGA and Ladies European Tour against each other in teams.

This will have a huge economic impact on Louisville. LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said the Solheim Cup could have a $60 million impact and bring up to 100,000 people to Louisville.

“The premier team event in women’s golf will be held for the first time in Kentucky at the storied Valhalla Golf Club,” said Samaan. “As you all know, Valhalla is one of the country’s premier golf courses in one of America’s premier sports cities, and we are thrilled to announce this exciting and important partnership.”

This will be Valhalla’s first-ever Solheim Cup, making the eastern Jefferson County golf course one of three to have hosted both the Solheim Cup and the Ryder Cup.

The dates have not been announced yet, but we know it will take place in late summer or early fall of 2028.
