Valencia coach Baraja says Mir ‘could’ face Osasuna; talks about Guerra’s progress

Valencia coach Ruben Baraja admits that Rafa Mir is likely to miss the game against Osasuna on Tuesday.

Baraja had made the striker available after his arrest two weeks ago, but an injury appears to prevent Mir from playing, as was explained at the press conference on Monday.

General absences and Enzo Barrenechea’s condition:

“We have to examine him now with the doctor and see how he evolves. After the effort on Saturday. I think that, on the whole, everyone will have recovered well, but we want to see if there is a situation that will not allow us to count on any of the players tomorrow. I don’t think so. Hugo Duro is training with the group for the first time today.”

Rafa Mir’s physical condition:

“This morning, his small injury was examined. I have the feeling that he is doing quite well. The truth is, however, that he has not trained with the group at all, which I like before a competition. We will evaluate this.”

Bryan Zaragoza, who was on Valencia’s agenda, is he Osasuna’s biggest threat?

“Osasuna’s biggest threat is the block. They play very well as a team, they are a very close team, they work very hard. They have made a fantastic start, especially at home. They have very good players, there are players like Bryan who stands out. He is unbalanced, fast and we don’t want him to shine individually or collectively.”

Luis Rioja’s step forward:

“It’s important that players come to help the team and also perform immediately. That’s the case with Luis. We think he’s a great addition and that he’ll prove us right over the course of the season.”

Form after the Girona win?

“We are still in the same situation, we are still behind and we need to get points. The more players go to the game tomorrow, the better. A friend told me that everyone from Saturday should go on Tuesday because they were a talisman. Hopefully we will continue the same pattern as on Saturday, but every game is different!”

What does Rafa Mir look like?

“He’s fine, he’s calm and he’s only thinking about being available for the team and being able to compete. Of course he has his own thoughts and his own things, but I can see that he can’t wait to get back to the group, to be able to participate again and to contribute something to the season.”

The situation of Yarek, who started playing and disappeared from the team?

“He’s just another player in the squad. He started playing, now he’s not playing anymore and he has to wait for his chance. Because he will get it and he has to play at the level that we all expect from him. You have to be ready when you have to help the team and contribute when you can’t be in the team!”

Three games in seven days, rotations?

“Yes, we always consider this possibility. We will make changes to refresh the team and also have players who can bring their qualities to the team. There are players who are not here at the moment but who will get their chance.”

Would achieving six out of six points be the solution to the crisis?

“When you don’t start well and you have a dynamic like ours, you want to change that and that’s the most complicated thing. Getting the second win would be a confidence boost to get out of the bottom of the table, even if it’s only anecdotal now. We want to try to get points, get the win and make us aware of the importance of knowing how to do it. We often talk about having to win, win, win, but you have to do a lot of things well to win. That’s what concerns me the most and what I think the team needs to adapt to.”

Has Javi Guerra taken a step forward in his performance?

“Whenever you ask me about him, I agree. He has brutal qualities, but he also has to translate them into performance. We have to demand more from him. If he plays a good game, we have to demand from him to repeat it in the next game and give us all the energy he can muster.”

Can Sergi Canós be part of the rotation?

“Without a doubt. He had his injury, he has made good progress, he has a good attitude and he is a player who can give us something whether he plays ten or eighty minutes. He has a good shot, the ability to make assists and he can certainly give us something.”
