Salt Lake City, Utah – Utahns are bracing for strong to severe thunderstorms today, bringing the threat of gusty winds, hail and heavy rain across much of the state. As the storms intensify, gusts of up to 50 mph are expected, and conditions will become dangerous starting this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, severe weather will occur across Utah, including Salt Lake City and the western regions. Wind gusts and heavy rain could cause property damage, and outdoor items should be secured immediately. Motorists are asked to avoid traveling during peak storm times, as strong winds can create hazardous driving conditions.

Additionally, the sky may be obscured by clouds due to the Harvest Supermoon and a partial lunar eclipse that begins at 8:41 p.m. The eclipse peaks at 10:44 p.m. and lasts until 12:47 a.m. Wednesday.

Residents should monitor local weather reports throughout the day and be prepared for possible power outages. Keep cell phones charged and secure loose outdoor items such as trampolines and furniture. Visit weather.gov for more up-to-date information.
