Alex Morgan just announced that her final professional soccer game will be this weekend… and said she is officially retiring from the sport as she prepares for the birth of her second child.
The 35-year-old U.S. Women’s National Team superstar shared a heartfelt social media post minutes ago announcing her plans to retire after the San Diego Wave hosted the North Carolina Courage on Sunday.
“I gave everything to this sport and what I got in return was more than I could have ever dreamed of,” an emotional Morgan said on Instagram. “Success to me is defined by never giving up and giving it your all and that’s exactly what I did. I give my best every single day on the field and that’s what I did.”
Morgan said she gave her all not only on the field, but off it as well… through her dedication to promoting women’s sports, her business endeavors and, of course, her role as a mother.

Speaking of which, Morgan also talked about her daughter, Charliebecomes a big sister … and celebrates her second child with Servando Carrasco.
“And as unexpected as this was, we are overjoyed,” she added. “Family means everything to me. I wouldn’t be here without my husband and family, who have built me up, motivated me, encouraged me, supported me and made sacrifices for me over the last 15 years as a professional athlete.”
Morgan was a key figure in the US national team from 2010 to 2024. As captain, he helped the red-white-blues win two world championships and an Olympic gold medal in 2012.
She also played professionally in the National Women’s Soccer League with Orlando Pride and Wave… as well as a handful of European clubs.
Although Morgan was not included in the squad for the 2024 Games in Paris, she is looking forward to lacing up her football boots one last time.
“I just want to thank the fans for always supporting us, for picking up what we say and spreading it,” she said. “They are there, showing up day after day. They support not only the teams I’ve played for, but also the player and the person I am.”
