SAINT-DENIS, France – A gold medal returns to the United States in the women’s 4×100 relay.
The star-studded U.S. women’s relay team, featuring Gabby Thomas and Sha’Carri Richardson, as well as Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry, easily took first place with a season-best time of 41.78.
Great Britain took second place with a time of 41.85 and Germany achieved its season’s best time of 41.97 and came third.
Thomas ran a good third stage and Richardson took the win by running the final stage in rainy conditions.
The U.S. women finished second behind a star-studded Jamaican team at the Tokyo Olympics, but Jamaica was without all of its stars, including Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Shericka Jackson and Elaine Thompson-Herah, due to various injuries.
The US women were by far the better team on the track, making all the relay changes on their way to the Olympic gold medal.
For Thomas, it is the second gold medal at these Olympic Games. On Tuesday, she won the 200 m, for Richardson it is the first Olympic gold medal. Last Saturday, she took second place in the 100 m.
