US approves $20 billion arms sales to Israel – tensions in the Middle East approach boiling point

The U.S. State Department announced it had approved $20 billion worth of arms sales to Israel as the Middle East region moves ever closer to a major war.

The push includes a variety of weapons, including nearly $19 billion worth of fighter jets and equipment, $774 million worth of tank shells, more than $60 million worth of explosive grenades and $583 million worth of army vehicles, the Pentagon said in a statement.

“The United States is committed to Israel’s security, and it is critical to U.S. national interests to help Israel develop and maintain a strong and ready self-defense capability. The proposed sale is consistent with these goals,” the State Department said.

In a statement, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant thanked the United States for enabling Israel to maintain a “qualitative military advantage in the region.”

“I thank Secretary of Defense Austin and Secretary of State Blinken for advancing important force-building initiatives that help Israel expand and maintain its qualitative military advantage in the region,” he posted on X. “This includes integrating F-15IAs into the Israeli Air Force’s fighter fleet and providing critical munitions to ensure Israel’s capabilities and security.”

The impending sale comes at a time when tensions in the region are at their peak.

Regional sources told Fox News chief foreign affairs correspondent Trey Yingst on Monday that they were concerned that Iran and its proxies could attack Israel within the next 24 hours in retaliation for the killing of Hamas politician Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran late last month.

On Monday, the Lebanon-based terrorist group Hezbollah fired 30 rockets at northern Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), but no casualties were reported.

“After sirens sounded recently in northern Israel, about 30 missiles were identified flying from Lebanon toward the Kabri area. Some of them fell in open areas,” said an Israel Defense Forces spokesman.

The weapons, worth $20 billion, are not expected to be delivered to Israel any time soon, even though they are intended to secure the country’s natural resources in the long term.
