Dear Editor,

The following is an open letter to Everton G. Hunter, CEO of the National Works Agency.

I am writing to draw your immediate attention to the deplorable state of the main road leading from Hatfield to the summit of Spur Tree Hill in the Parish of Manchester and the invasive vegetation on the lower slopes, both of which require urgent action.

Firstly, the condition of the main road from Hatfield to the top of Spur Tree Hill has deteriorated significantly in recent months and has become something of an obstacle course. The road is riddled with potholes, making travel extremely difficult and dangerous for motorists. The current state of the road not only increases wear and tear on vehicles, but also poses a significant safety risk to drivers and passengers. I call on the National Works Agency to prioritise repairing this road before the situation worsens and potentially leads to accidents.

Secondly, the soft shoulder along the lower slopes of Spur Tree Hill is in urgent need of trimming. Overgrown trees and shrubs have encroached onto the carriageway, reducing its width and making it increasingly difficult to navigate, particularly for larger vehicles. The narrowed road has become a problem for all users of this stretch and it is imperative that this vegetation is trimmed back to restore the full width of the carriageway and ensure safe passage for all motorists.

Finally, I would like to stress the importance of regularly clearing the inner circle on the very steep downhill curve along Spur Tree Main Road of trees and vegetation. This particular section of road is dangerous and the overgrown vegetation severely limits drivers’ visibility. It is especially important that drivers travelling up the hill have a clear view of vehicles coming down, particularly the large, heavily loaded trucks that frequently travel this route. The current lack of visibility is intimidating for many drivers, including the elderly and women, who may find this section of road particularly difficult to navigate safely.

I respectfully request the National Works Agency to address these issues urgently. The residents and motorists who use this road daily would greatly appreciate your prompt action to restore the safety and accessibility of this important artery.

Thank you for your attention to these urgent concerns. I look forward to your positive response and timely intervention.
