Unranked Kentucky upsets No. 6 Ole Miss after the kicker misses a potential game-winning field goal

The Kentucky Wildcats nearly shocked the world by nearly upsetting top-ranked Georgia two weeks ago. On Saturday, they officially shocked the world.

The Wildcats went on the road and beat sixth-seeded Ole Miss 20-17.

Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart gave his kicker a chance to score the equalizer at the end of the game. After converting a fourth-and-11 with a 42-yard completion to tight end Caden Prieskorn, Dart had the Rebels in business.

However, the Wildcats’ defense remained strong after giving up the fourth down conversion, and Lane Kiffin sent his kicker to try to tie the game.

Kicker Caden Davis fired his game-winning 48-yard field goal attempt wide left with 48 seconds left, securing the upset victory for Kentucky.

Kentucky’s offense struggled most of the game but found its rhythm when it mattered most.

Trailing 17-13, it was time for Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops to make a decision. The Wildcats had a fourth-and-7 on their own 20-yard line with less than four minutes to play.

Stoops kept the offense on the field and was rewarded with the biggest play of the day. Quarterback Brock Vandagriff connected with wide receiver Barion Brown for a 63-yard gain.

Two plays later, the Wildcats had a lucky break. Stoops brought backup quarterback Gavin Wimsatt into a goal-line package to try to run the ball for a touchdown.

However, Wimsatt fumbled the ball as he was tackled, and the ball fell right into the hands of Wildcats tight end Josh Kattus, who scampered into the end zone for a touchdown.

Vandagriff threw for 243 yards and a touchdown in the win and connected for the touchdown with wide receiver Dane Key, who caught eight passes for 105 yards.
