Middle East Tensions have once again interrupted a major United Airlines flight route. Analysts at Deutsche Bank noted in a recent study that the airline has suspended all flights between the United States and Tel Aviv as the conflict between Israel and Iran threatens to escalate into a full-scale war.

“The company had recently offered twice-daily service from Newark to Tel Aviv before it was suspended due to rising tensions in the Middle East,” the German airline said in a statement. “That service was scheduled to resume in early September. However, United has now decided to suspend all Tel Aviv service for the remainder of the published schedule (through July 2025), including service to/from Chicago, San Francisco and Washington-Dulles, which was scheduled to resume in November.”

United did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The airline suspended its flights to Tel Aviv shortly after the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel that killed 1,200 people and sparked a war in the Gaza Strip that has killed at least 39,000 Palestinians.

United resumed operations to Tel Aviv in March, but had to cancel again in AprilThen United Air traffic to Israel began again in JuneHowever, a further expansion of air traffic is off the table.

CEO Scott Kirby said at United’s recent earnings call that flights to Israel accounted for a significant portion of the company’s profits.

“When we took out Tel Aviv, it was obviously about 2% of United Airlines,” he said. “I think that number surprised everyone. And of course, flying for United is lucrative, to say the least, and so the loss was significant.”
