Underrated horror film with Ryan Reynolds and “terrible” ending now on Netflix

If you’re looking for another Ryan Reynolds movie after Deadpool & Wolverine, Netflix has one of its most underrated films – and the ending will give you nightmares.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” is likely to be the high point of Reynolds’ career. Not only is it a return to his defining role and his official entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it is also one of the highest-grossing films of all time.

Before he became Marvel’s big-mouthed mercenary, his filmography was… weird. He made romantic comedies like The Proposal and The Possessions, ensemble action films like Smokin’ Aces, and experimental thrillers like Buried (which will ruin your day).

But right after his first appearance as Deadpool, he starred alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson in an underrated science fiction horror film: Lifeand it can be streamed on Netflix.

The film follows the crew of the International Space Station after a probe delivers soil samples from Mars. One of the scientists revives a dormant cell, inadvertently allowing an alien organism to grow.

They call him Calvin, and he seems relatively harmless… at first, until he escapes from the station’s lab and all hell breaks loose.

The film was not a huge success at the box office, grossing just over $100 million on a $58 million budget and receiving a 67% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (not to mention a 57% audience share).

On Reddit, a horror fan asked for horror movies with the most terrifying endings—and (no spoilers, don’t worry) Life fits that requirement perfectly. “This movie still scares me. I wish I’d never seen it,” one user wrote.

“The alien looks the scariest in this movie. I will never watch it again. NEVER again,” commented another, while a third wrote: “That’s a grim ending.”

At the very least, it’s the perfect film for your watchlist before Alien: Romulus hits theaters on August 16. Be sure to check out our guides to the origins of the Xenomorph, when Romulus is set in the Alien timeline, and our ranking of the Alien movies.
