The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) has issued a statement warning of possible false flag operations in planning by Russian intelligence services in the Kursk region. The SBU states that Russian forces create and spread various fake news and disinformation campaigns that have no basis in reality. These information and psychological operations are primarily due to Russia’s inability to effectively counter the attacks of the Ukrainian armed forces.

In the near futureRussian secret services could resort to staging crimes, especially against the civilian population of the Kursk region, in order to “The perpetrators then blame the Ukrainian side for their actions,” the SBU warned in an official statement.

The security service stressed that such attempts are pointless and will not influence either the offensive actions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces or the opinion of Ukraine’s international partners. The SBU noted that the Ukrainian Defense Forces have proven to the world that they strictly adhere to the rules and customs of warfare both in dealing with Russian prisoners of war and with civilians.

The SBU’s announcement comes amid an ongoing Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukraine controls nearly 1,000 square kilometers of land, according to Ukrainian commander-in-chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
