UFC Paris results: Exhausted Nassourdine Imavov knocks out sloppy Brendan Allen in ugly brawl and still claims title shot

Nassourdine Imavov and Brendan Allen competed in a middleweight bout this evening (Sat., September 28, 2024) at UFC Paris at the Accor Arena in Paris, France.

Allen started the fight with authority, kicking Imavov in the calf and then hitting him with a big clinch takedown. The American gained side control and tried to mount, but Imavov regained his guard. He wasn’t particularly active from the top position, but landed a few shots and controlled a long portion of the round. Imavov didn’t do much from underneath other than holding on, which really slowed things down. Nevertheless, Allen was ahead and secured an easy lap.

After exchanging blows from a distance, Allen returned to wrestling at the start of the second round, but Imavov blocked the blow well. Once Imavov was back on his feet, he landed a nice combination on the counter and then landed another shot. After another landing, Imavov countered a shot and secured top position. Unlike Allen, he immediately made the most of his top position and landed some nasty ground punches.

Allen got back to his feet and was hit hard in the head. As the wrestling failed, Allen threw wild punches but lost the exchange. He went down with another desperate shot, landing in a bad position again. Imavov started chasing a front choke, then circled behind him and knocked Allen down with more ground strikes. Allen seemed to wilt and gave up his back.

He survived until the bell, but even though the scorecards were probably tied, all the momentum was Imavov’s.

Imavov’s quick, straight punches led to another single-leg takedown attempt from Allen. Here too, Imavov defended well and secured the top position. This time, however, he did a better job of climbing to the top and tried to wrestle Imavov along the fence. However, he couldn’t get anything going.

When the two separated, they started trading and they both ended up! With 90 seconds left, all men looked exhausted and the fight was still wide open. Allen landed a nice knee strike, but slowed his own momentum by shooting for another takedown. The two fought until the final bell, completely exhausted from the 15-minute fight.

All three judges scored the second and third rounds for Imavov, giving him the decision win and ending Allen’s long winning streak. It wasn’t the most exciting or inspiring performance, but he got the job done. Overall, his wrestling looked really excellent and his ability to make Allen pay for takedown attempts decided the fight.

However, the French fighter still needs to improve his conditioning to be able to challenge Dricus Du Plessis.

Result: Imavov defeated Allen via unanimous decision
