He’s going to the locker room for further evaluation and imaging, but Gus was pretty out of it at that moment.”

Van Dyke is in his first season at Wisconsin after moving from Miamiwhere he experienced ups and downs in his three years as a starter. His best season was 2021, when he threw 2,931 yards and 25 touchdowns. However, after struggling with interceptions in 2023, he entered the Transfer portal and committed to taking over Wisconsin Lukas Fickell And Phil Longos Air raid offense.

But Fickell had even more plans for Van Dyke. He wanted to get him involved in the running game, similar to what he did in Miami in 2021, when he made 53 carries for 57 yards. In two games, he lived up to his expectations with 14 carries for 17 yards and a key run score against West Michigan at the start of the season.

“If you watch him in his first year in Miami, he got around a lot more,” Fickell told On3 Pete Nakos in an exclusive interview with Big Ten Media Days“That’s what I talked to him about when I was working on the offense. I don’t tell him where to throw the football.

“But for me, the focus was always, ‘Hey, when you come here, you’ve got to train, you’ve got to change your body. We were able to see a little bit more of the athleticism, the strength that you had as a freshman that I saw, as opposed to the last couple of years where you were probably just focused on the quarterback role instead of providing the total package.'”
