Two women in critical condition after their dirt bike collided with an SUV in Frankford, police say – NBC10 Philadelphia

Two women are in the hospital after their dirt bike was hit by a car in Frankford on Monday evening.

It happened just before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Kensington and Castor Avenue under the elevated railway when police and paramedics received a report of a car crash, said Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

When police arrived at the scene, they found a Honda dirt bike lying on its side and two women on the street.

One of the women, who appeared to be in her early 20s, was unconscious and had injuries to her head and neck, Small said. The other woman, 22, had injuries to her upper body and hip but was awake. They were both taken to the hospital.

The 22-year-old’s condition is in critical danger and that of the unconscious woman, police said.

“It is not known whether she will survive the injuries or not,” Small said.

According to initial findings, the women were riding an illegal dirt bike without indicators, lights or license plates, said Small.

“Driving them on the road is very, very dangerous, but driving them at night just shows how dangerous this can be,” Small said. “Most likely, other drivers on the road won’t even be able to see this vehicle because it doesn’t have headlights or any other lights.”

They were traveling south on Kensington Avenue at the corner of Castor Avenue, and a Ford SUV traveling north on Kensington Avenue made a left turn in front of the dirt bike.

The driver of the Ford, a man in his early 40s, was still at the scene and is cooperating with police. His car sustained damage to the right passenger side, officials said, but there were no reports the man was injured.

Small said there was a helmet at the scene, but they were not sure if any of the women were wearing it or which one it might have been.

At this point, the police could not yet identify the women.

The investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
